Аннотация

Giovanni Battista Moroni (ca 1520/1524-1579/1580) exemplifies the Lombard commitment to empiric naturalism, a tradition grounded in unidealized observation and meticulous physiognomic precision. Two of his late portraits, the Portrait of a Doctor (ca 1560-1570) and the Portrait of a Nobleman of the Albani Family (ca 1570), feature carefully modeled frontal soft-tissue swellings with smooth contours, no erythema, and stable volume, consistent with benign lipomas. Their inclusion demonstrates Moroni's refusal to suppress visible bodily irregularities and reflects a broader regional attentiveness to dermatologic and subcutaneous detail. These works reaffirm his position within a Lombard visual culture committed to representing the human body with uncompromising observational fidelity.
