Аннотация

We report a case of postoperative Capnocytophaga ochracea bacteremia in a patient with diabetes and poor oral hygiene. A 74-year-old man with diabetes mellitus underwent a laparoscopic total gastrectomy for scirrhous gastric cancer. On postoperative day 6, erythema was observed at the midline surgical wound. Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed no abscess. Antimicrobial therapy with meropenem 3 g/day was initiated. Blood culture yielded Gram-negative bacilli, which were identified as Capnocytophaga ochracea. Bacteremia caused by C. ochracea is mainly reported in immunocompromised patients with hematologic malignancies and chemotherapy-induced neutropenia. Clinicians should be aware of this postoperative infection in patients with poor oral hygiene.
