First report of a cartilaginous choristoma of the false vocal fold: a case of direct laryngoscopic excision and literature review.
Аннотация
INTRODUCTION
Choristomas are normal tissue in an abnormal location. Intraoral cartilaginous choristomas are rare, with no prior cases reported in the false vocal fold, making this a novel finding.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old male smoker presented with a 5-month history of a foreign body sensation. Examination revealed a firm, submucosal nodule on the right false vocal fold. The mass was excised completely via direct laryngoscopy.
DISCUSSION: This is the first documented case in this location. The pathogenesis likely involves displaced embryonic rests from branchial arch development. It is crucial to distinguish this benign lesion from malignancies like chondrosarcoma based on its well-circumscribed nature and lack of cytological atypia. Complete excision is curative.
CONCLUSION
Cartilaginous choristoma should be considered a rare cause of a laryngeal mass. Endoscopic excision is the treatment of choice and appears definitive.
