Аннотация

An 11-month-old female infant without any significant past medical history presented to an outside facility emergency department due to acute onset hemiparesis. Initial head CT imaging was negative for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). The patient was transferred to our children's hospital for further evaluation and management. Previous head imaging was read again by a pediatric radiologist who reported AIS of the basal ganglia with what was thought to be punctate hemorrhages surrounding the penumbra. After further MRI imaging studies were completed, the area initially believed to be punctate hemorrhages was identified instead as microcalcifications of the lenticulostriate arteries, and a diagnosis of mineralizing angiopathy was made. Given this entity's scarcity of documented cases, it is important for physicians to be aware of the diagnosis, as well as the associated neuroradiologic findings.
