Аннотация
Accidental ligature strangulation is an uncommon occurrence, most often associated with autoerotic fatalities in adults or entanglement of clothing in machinery, household devices, or vehicles. We report a case of laryngotracheal separation due to accidental ligature strangulation in a 20-year-old female laborer employed at a toilet refresher production facility. The incident occurred when her scarf (dupatta) became entangled in an electric motor-powered double-cone blender, resulting in strangulation due to the blender's rotary motion. The victim was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. Autopsy revealed a ligature mark partially encircling the neck, with underlying soft tissue hemorrhage. The larynx was separated from the trachea at the anterior aspect of the neck, without fractures of the thyroid or cricoid cartilage. Contusions were observed in the subcutaneous tissue and neck muscles. The mechanism of injury was attributed to compressive and rotary forces exerted by the machine on the neck, resulting in laryngotracheal separation. This case highlights the importance of implementing strict safety protocols and thorough risk assessments in industrial settings to prevent such tragic accidents.
