Case Report: Ossifying parosteal lipoma of the mandible with cortical continuity: surgical considerations from a rare case and literature review.
Аннотация
Parosteal lipoma is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor that is particularly uncommon in the mandible. We report a case of ossifying parosteal lipoma arising in the mental region of the mandible in a 36-year-old woman who presented with a gradually enlarging, painless chin mass. Imaging revealed a well-defined fat-density lesion adjacent to the mandible with internal ossified components. Intraoperatively, the lesion was found to encircle a broad-based bony protuberance with continuity to the mandibular cortex. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of ossifying parosteal lipoma. The patient underwent complete surgical excision of the tumor together with removal of the associated bony protuberance and subsequent smoothing of the mandibular cortical surface. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, and no evidence of recurrence was observed during follow-up. Clinically, a fat-containing mass with ossification and cortical continuity should raise consideration of osteochondroma and liposarcoma in the differential diagnosis. Awareness of potential osseous involvement is important for surgical planning, as complete excision with removal of associated bony components may be required to minimize recurrence.
