Аннотация

INTRODUCTION

This case study explores the illness experience of a patient with lower leg ischaemia resulting from damage to the pelvic arteries by radiotherapy. It details comprehensive person-centred care involving an integrated plan from multiple specialities. The technical and non-technical skills to provide expert wound care are overviewed.

CASE REPORT: A 51-year-old female was admitted for multiple revascularisations for radiation-induced peripheral artery disease (RIPAD). Despite multiple attempts at limb salvage, she eventually required a major amputation. She had multiple co-morbidities and difficult pain management. In addition to the breakdown of her stump, she developed a pressure injury during her long length of stay.

CONCLUSION

The reflections about this patient highlight that comprehensive care for complex wounds requires advanced technical and non-technical skills. A capable workforce with adequate time to coordinate and deliver care is essential.
