Аннотация
This report describes initial use of a novel bioengineered bilaminar skin substitute to obtain healing in a 6-year-old child with 63% total body surface area (TBSA) full thickness burns. This platelet gel-based Human Skin Equivalent (PG-HSE) autograft differs from other second generation bilaminar biologic skin substitutes, incorporating a platelet - derived hydrogel scaffold. A 5 cm2 skin biopsy was used to manufacture 500 cm2 of bilaminar skin. This was applied to an excised wound bed treated with a biodegradable dermal skin substitute, NovoSorb® Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix (BTM) (PolyNovo Biomaterials Pty Ltd, Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia). The take rate of the grafted PG-HSE was 95% at 2 weeks post-grafting, with no wound breakdown or requirement for further surgery at the PG-HSE graft sites at 15 months post-grafting. This case demonstrates the efficacy of this bioengineered skin autograft in closing temporized full-thickness burns.
