Appendiceal diverticulitis mimicking uncomplicated acute appendicitis on CT: A case report and review of the literature.
Аннотация
Abdominal contrast-enhanced computed tomography (portal venous phase, thin-slice reconstruction) demonstrated a distended appendix measuring 10 mm in diameter with peri-appendiceal fat stranding, without visible appendicolith, focal outpouching, or mural defect, suggesting uncomplicated acute appendicitis. Appendiceal diverticula were not identified preoperatively. The patient underwent laparoscopic appendectomy. Intraoperatively, multiple inflamed diverticula were observed. Histopathological examination confirmed appendiceal diverticulitis with peridiverticulitis, without evidence of neoplasm. The postoperative course was uneventful. This case highlights the difficulty of preoperative diagnosis and the limitations of CT in detecting appendiceal diverticula.
