Аннотация
OBJECTIVES: The main objective is to create a training program dedicated to the management of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASIS). The secondary objective is to evaluate the educational benefits.
METHODS: A program comprising a course followed by a suturing workshop using a simulated beef tongue model of a 4th degree lesion was created. The training was offered to birth professionals from different maternity units. The educational impact was assessed by self-questionnaires evaluating the professionals' self-confidence and by knowledge tests.
RESULTS: The training was presented to 56 professionals. The beef tongue model was considered realistic in 97% (n=32/33) of cases. There was a significant improvement in the perceived level of knowledge (+130%, P<0.001) and the perceived ability to diagnose (+71%, P<0.001) and repair OASIS (+81%, P<0.001). Average scores on the knowledge test were significantly improved (+ 3 points, P<0.001). Participants wanted the training to continue (96%, n=51/53 for the theoretical part and 100%, n=34/34 for the practical part).
CONCLUSION: An educational program dedicated to the management of OASIS, based on an innovative anatomical model, was created. The program had a significant educational benefit. Healthcare simulation is a tool for improving care.
