Today, the standard intervention for the removal of the gallbladder is the laparoscopic modality. Early laparoscopic cholecystectomy is now the regular approach, since the former practice (antibiotic therapy and surgery in the inflammation-free interval) led to a considerable delay, which was often accompanied by massive intra-abdominal adhesions and which resulted in an increase in the conversion rate.
