OBJECTIVE

To determine the presence of glucose levels in parotid saliva in somatically healthy people and establish a relationship with indicators in oral fluid, venous and capillary blood.

MATERIALS AND

METHODS

A comprehensive clinical and laboratory study of 20 healthy volunteers (average age 25 years) was conducted without somatic pathology, 2 of them are men and 18 are women. A health questionnaire was used during the examination. To determine the glucose concentration (in mmol/L), oral fluid, parotid saliva, and capillary and venous blood were collected in the morning on an empty stomach and 2 hours after meals.

RESULTS

The glucose level in the oral fluid on an empty stomach was 0.1 mmol/l and 0.03 mmol/l 2 hours after eating, which indicated a significant decrease in the indicator For the first time, the limits of glucose content in parotid saliva in healthy people were 0.02-0.3 mmol/l. There were minimal differences between glucose levels in parotid saliva on an empty stomach and after meals (0.06 mmol/l and 0.05 mmol/l, respectively). In capillary and venous blood, the highest concentration of glucose is reached 2 hours after eating.

CONCLUSION

The study showed that the glucose concentration in parotid saliva in a healthy group of people practically does not change before and after eating, unlike oral fluid. The study of glucose levels in saliva can serve as a clinically significant parameter for additional diagnosis of diseases, which confirms the prospects of this study.
