Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Uterine inversion is an uncommon phenomenon typically seen in the obstetric setting. Non-puerperal uterine inversion is even more rare and typically caused by benign pathology, though can be found in association with gynecologic malignancies. Surgical intervention is the main treatment with hysterectomy often being performed. Various techniques can be used to restore normal anatomy prior to proceeding with hysterectomy, though when these techniques fail hysterectomy may ultimately need to be performed without correcting the inversion.
CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a case of an 80-year-old woman with endometrial carcinosarcoma causing a complete uterine inversion. Different techniques were attempted to correct the inversion, however, were unsuccessful. Hysterectomy was safely performed with the uterus in its inverted state.
CONCLUSION: Uterine inversion caused by a gynecologic malignancy is a rare phenomenon and poses a unique surgical challenge. The case highlights the feasibility of performing hysterectomy without correcting the inversion.
