Аннотация

BACKGROUND: Pregnant and postpartum patients are at risk of infectious sacroiliitis due to the increased demand on the sacroiliac joint as well as the changes in the pelvis during pregnancy and delivery.

CASE: We present the case of a 34-year-old woman who developed severe back pain following an uncomplicated vaginal delivery and was ultimately found to have Group B streptococcal sacroiliitis. After undergoing a washout and debridement and receiving a prolonged course of parenteral antibiotics, she experienced resolution of her symptoms.

CONCLUSION: Infectious sacroiliitis is a very rare but significant complication of the pregnant and postpartum period. Prompt and effective treatment is important to decrease the risk of significant complications, but diagnosis may be challenging.
