Аннотация
BACKGROUND: Multiple myeloma (MM) carries a high venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk; aspirin shows limited efficacy, while factor-Xa inhibitors show promise.
OBJECTIVES: Evaluate apixaban for primary thromboprophylaxis in newly diagnosed MM (NDMM).
METHODS: Prospective single-center study of consecutive patients receiving apixaban, followed for VTE and bleeding.
RESULTS: Eighty-seven patients (median follow-up of 11 months) were included; no major bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, or pulmonary embolism occurred; two developed symptomatic superficial vein thrombosis.
CONCLUSIONS: Apixaban was safe and associated with very low rates of clinically significant thrombotic and bleeding events, supporting further evaluation for thromboprophylaxis in NDMM.
TRIAL REGISTRATION: The authors have confirmed clinical trial registration is not needed for this submission.
