Аннотация

BACKGROUND

To date, there have been no documented cases of complete recovery from hemorrhage due to traumatic splenic rupture treated exclusively with Chinese herbal medicine. This case report details a 54-year-old Han male who achieved full recovery from splenic rupture-induced hemorrhage through the self-administration of oral and topical Chinese herbs following an accident.

CASE PRESENTATION: The patient fell from approximately 3 m while collecting herbs, landing on his left chest and abdomen, resulting in persistent pain and discomfort. Initially, he self-treated with Chinese herbs, but his symptoms worsened, leading to bloating, general weakness, dizziness, chest tightness, and fever. Imaging revealed multiple left rib fractures, splenic contusions, and significant blood and fluid accumulation in his abdominal and pelvic cavities. Despite these serious findings, the patient chose to continue managing his condition at home with Chinese herbal remedies. Five days later, due to ongoing symptoms, his family insisted on hospitalization for a thorough evaluation. During his stay, he received general medical treatment while continuing with the Chinese herbs. After four days, his condition improved, and subsequent imaging showed a reduction in blood and fluid accumulation. Follow-up over a year confirmed complete recovery without the need for surgery or blood transfusion.

CONCLUSION

This case illustrates the potential effectiveness of Chinese herbal medicine in managing hemorrhage from traumatic splenic rupture. The patient's significant recovery without surgical intervention or blood transfusion suggests a promising role for Chinese herbal treatments in acute traumatic hemorrhage, warranting further research and clinical investigation.
