If there is a high degree of suspicion of a carotid body tumor, surgical removal or a prospective procedure should be used in accordance with the Shamblin classification, the genetic clarification and the patient's individual life situation. If there is suspicion of vagal paraganglioma due to the location of the tumor and the symptoms, an expectative approach with regular check-ups should be considered in a symptom-poor and elderly patient.
