[Recognition and management of allodynia in Primary Care: An updated review].

Allodynia is a sensory disturbance that causes pain in response to stimuli that would not normally be painful, such as light touch, gentle pressure, or temperature changes. This phenomenon reflects a dysfunction in pain processing, which may originate in the peripheral or central nervous system, and is observed in various chronic conditions including fibromyalgia, postherpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy, and certain types of postsurgical pain. Diagnosis in Primary Care requires careful clinical examination and assessment of both emotional and functional impact. Treatment should be tailored to each patient, combining drugs that modulate the nervous system with physical, educational, and psychological interventions. Regular clinical follow-up is essential, and referral to specialized units should be considered in complex cases. This article provides an updated narrative review of allodynia, aiming to enhance its recognition and management in everyday clinical practice.
