Аннотация

BACKGROUND: We present a patient with ochronotic arthropathy admitted to perform total knee arthroplasty (TKA) of the right knee.

CASE PRESENTATION: The patient admitted to the orthopaedic department presented with pain in multiple joints, particularly affecting the knees, hips, and shoulders.

INTERVENTION: Preoperatively, the patient underwent meticulous preparation for the procedure in consultation with the anesthesiology team. During the surgery, we observed black bones and menisci in the joint.

OUTCOME: The patient felt a massive relief after TKA. At 1-month follow-up, the patient reported a satisfying range of motion of the knee.

CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that TKA may represent an effective therapeutic option for patients with alkaptonuria and degenerative joint disease because it may provide substantial pain relief and improve joint function.
