Impact of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Diseases (WMSD) among Medical Teachers on their Quality of Life in North India.
Аннотация
BACKGROUND
Medical teachers are at high risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) due to occupational stressors. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, associated risk factors, and impact of WMSDs on the quality of life among medical teachers in North India.
METHODS
A cross-sectional survey-based study was conducted at Government Medical College, Patiala, Punjab, involving 280 medical faculty members. Data collection utilized the standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and the Orebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire (OMPSQ). Statistical analysis included Chi-square tests and regression analyses.
RESULTS
The prevalence of WMSDs was notably high, with the majority reporting back pain (81.07%) and neck pain (80.36%). About 42.86% reported pain severe enough to impede daily activities. Significant associations (P < 0.001) were observed between moderate-to-severe pain and factors, such as prolonged pain duration (>12 months), female gender, insufficient sleep, and psychological stress.
CONCLUSION
Medical teachers experienced high rates of musculoskeletal disorders, substantially affecting their daily functioning and quality of life. Ergonomic adjustments, health-awareness interventions, and lifestyle modifications are recommended to prevent and reduce WMSDs in this vulnerable group.
