[Osteoporosis and inflammation : A surgical challenge in orthopedics and trauma surgery].

BACKGROUND

Surgical treatment of patients with osteoporosis and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) presents a challenge. Osteoporosis, characterized by reduced bone mass and quality, and inflammatory diseases are common causes of fractures by increasing the risk of bone loss.

OSTEOIMMUNOLOGY: In recent years, the field of osteoimmunology -which studies the interactions between the immune system and bone metabolism-has gained importance, addressing overlaps between conditions that are often considered separately Diagnosis, risk assessment, and therapeutic approaches must be discussed, and the role of pharmacologica therapies and specialized implants for osteoporotic bone tissue must be taken into account in decision-making. Fall prevention and postoperative rehabilitation are of particular importance. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary to improve outcomes for affected patients.
