Migratory Thrombosis of Internal Jugular Vein in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma - A Case Report.
Аннотация
INTRODUCTION
Cancer-associated thrombosis is recognised but rare in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). We report an unusual case of extensive thrombus involving the internal jugular vein (IJV) extending to the subclavian vein (SV) in OSCC.
CASE DETAILS: A 53-year-old female presented with facial swelling and trismus. Imaging revealed OSCC of the left mandible with extensive lymph node involvement and a large thrombus in left IJV, extending to the SV. She was referred to a higher centre for thrombus management and OSCC treatment.
DIAGNOSIS: Computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography-CT/magnetic resonance imaging fusion confirmed OSCC with thrombus extending from IJV to SV.
DISCUSSION: Thrombus development in OSCC is multifactorial. This case highlights the potential for extensive venous thromboembolism in OSCC, with rare extension into SV.
CONCLUSION
Extensive venous thromboembolism in OSCC, with thrombus extension into SV, is a rare but critical complication. Vigilant surveillance and a multi-disciplinary approach are essential.
