OBJECTIVE: To explore motivations and barriers of Dutch vulvar Lichen sclerosus (LS) patients for accepting televulvology and patients' preferences for follow-up visits.
DESIGN: Cohort questionnaire pilot study.
SETTING: Outpatient clinic of a large teaching hospital.
POPULATION: 89 patients with vulvar LS in follow-up during February and March 2025.
METHODS: An online questionnaire was used to collect patient data on motivations and barriers for televulvology and preferences for follow-up. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and multivariable regression analysis.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Acceptance for televulvology.
RESULTS: 81 (91,0%) patients completed the questionnaire. In total 58 (71,6%) patients preferred in-person appointments, 6 (7,4%) patients opted for only televulvology appointments and the remaining 17 (21%) preferred alternating in-person and televulvology appointments. There was no significant correlation between patient characteristics and preferences for follow-up. The main reason for accepting televulvology was the possibility of a quick judgement of the gynaecologist (N = 39, 48%) and the most frequent barrier for televulvology was fear of missing abnormalities (N = 38, 47%).
CONCLUSIONS: This study shows Dutch vulvar LS patients are currently not willing to accept televulvology only for follow-up appointments.
