Unleashing the prospects of nanomaterials in the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
Аннотация
Autoimmune diseases arise when the immune system, responsible for safeguarding the body against infections and other foreign agents mistakenly attacks healthy cells and tissues. This leads to acute and chronic inflammation, tissue damage, and impaired function of multiple organs. Current treatment approaches for these conditions and for various inflammatory diseases often have significant side effects and, in some cases, induce systemic immunosuppression, increasing patients' vulnerability to infections. Nanomaterials (NMs) and nanotherapy hold great potential for revolutionizing the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. NMs can act as drug carriers, offering a safer and more efficient approach by selectively targeting affected tissues and reducing the required dose of anti-inflammatory drugs. Additionally, NMs can function as immunomodulatory agents, helping to regulate the dysregulated immune response by diverse mechanisms. Nanotherapy, with ongoing research and clinical trials, shows immense promise in managing autoimmune and inflammatory disorders. It offers enhanced efficacy, improved safety, and better patient outcomes, establishing itself as a forward-looking strategy for the future.
