ACTIVE problem solving: An action-oriented method for transforming Complex or Chaotic problems into verified reusable solutions.
Аннотация
In problem landscapes characterized by extreme uncertainty, traditional analytical problem-solving often fails because causal relationships only become visible through intervention. Additionally, valuable insights obtained during crisis response frequently remain unarticulated and risk being lost after stability is restored if they are not deliberately recorded. This paper introduces ACTIVE (Action-Centered Transformation Into Verified Explications), a novel meta-methodology designed to bridge the gap between immediate crisis management and long-term organizational learning. By prioritizing action as a primary sensemaking tool, the framework allows practitioners navigating uncertain problem landscapes to convert ad-hoc solutions into verified, reusable dynamic capabilities. The ACTIVE protocol guides the practitioner through the following process: • Classifying the nature of the disorder to authorize experimental or rapid-response strategies where standard analysis is insufficient. • Stabilizing the specific problem through targeted interventions that generate high-fidelity experiential data. • Systematically abstracting the intervention into a generalized, explicit model to define its future validity. By rigorously defining the problem structure post-intervention, ACTIVE allows organizations to transition problems from states of uncertainty to improved certainty or clarity. Ultimately, ACTIVE ensures that the exhaustive energy spent navigating chaos today is permanently converted into explicit, reliable efficiency for tomorrow.
