Wound management is considered as one of the most critical component of veterinary clinical practice. Use of biomaterials in therapeutics has shown immense application potential. The present study evaluated and compared wound healing potential of heterologous platelet rich fibrin (h-PRF), Gold nanoparticles with Moringa oleifera leaf extract (AuNPs-MOE). The study included 24 dogs which were presented to clinics with natural wounds and were further divided into 4 groups comprising 6 dogs each. Group-I received topical application of h-PRF, Group II received AuNPs-MoE, Group III received integrated, h-PRF with AuNPs-MoE and Group IV were considered as control as they received standard antibiotic dressing. These dogs were evaluated clinically for macroscopic assessment (color of skin surrounding the wound, exudate and granulation), wound contraction %, hematological, physical parameters and pro-inflammatory cytokine profile. These observations were recorded on 0th 3rd and 7th day post application of treatment protocol. Group III showed significant improvement in wound healing parameters i.e., color of skin surrounding the wound, exudate and granulation, wound contraction % during day 3-7 of application. Similarly, Expression of serum pro-inflammatory cytokines i.e., canine IL-6 revealed significant reduction from day 0-7, in group III. However, group I containing h-PRF showed significantly reduces concentration of IL-1β (p < 0.01). Furthermore, TNF-α concentrations were significantly downregulated during day 0-7, in all the groups. This indicates the uniform anti-inflammatory effect of all the treatment protocols. These findings further potentiate possible future of combination of regenerative and Nano-biomolecules as better alternative to conventional wound management strategies.
