Аннотация

PURPOSE: The health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of pregnant women has received much attention. Understanding the factors affecting their HRQoL will help health care providers develop targeted strategies for pregnancy care. This study investigated the current status of pregnant women's HRQoL in Jiangsu Province, Eastern China, explored the impact of chronic pain and other factors on it.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: An institution-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among eligible pregnant women attending prenatal care in the Obstetrics Department, Lianyungang Maternal and Child Health Hospital. A structured questionnaire referring to the characteristics of the study objects, chronic pain conditions, and HRQoL was used to obtain data. HRQoL was assessed using the European quality of life scale-5 dimensions (EQ-5D). Mann-Whitney U-test and multiple linear regression models were used to explore the factors associated with HRQoL.

RESULTS: The study included a total of 614 pregnant women. The mean EQ-5D utility score was 0.87±0.13, and the median score was 0.87. The mean EQ-visual analogue scale (VAS) score was 84.47±16.02, and the median score was 88.00. The incidence of chronic pain was 31.8%. Multiple linear regression models showed that pregnant women with irregular daily routines (β = -0.026 and β = -3.142, respectively, p < 0.05) and chronic pain (β = -0.105 and β = -6.767, respectively, p < 0.001) were more likely to have a low EQ-5D utility scores and EQ-VAS scores. In addition, significantly lower EQ-5D utility scores were also observed in pregnant women who had two or more pregnancies (β = -0.022, p < 0.05) and exercised irregularly or not (β = -0.022, p < 0.05).

CONCLUSION: Chronic pain and daily routines were the main factors affecting HRQoL of pregnant women. When developing intervention measures to improve HRQoL, focusing on chronic pain and daily routines might be effective.
