Transcervical Foley catheter and vaginal misoprostol for induction of labour in women with poor Bishop score.
Аннотация
This prospective cohort study, aimed at studying the effect of a transcervical Foley catheter on labor induction, was carried out between 1 March and 31 August 2025. Pregnant women ≥37th week' gestation with poor Bishop scores whose labor were induced with vaginal misoprostol and transcervical Foley catheter (group A) or with misoprostol alone (group B) were recruited and followed up with their offspring till their discharge from the hospital. The main variables recorded included labor progression, mode of delivery, maternal, and perinatal outcomes. Fisher exact test and t-test were used for comparison. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. We recruited 35 women in group A and 43 in group B. Women of group A had significantly less labor augmentation (p = 0.003), shorter labor duration (p < 0.001), reduced Casarean section risk (p = 0.001), and less neonatal asphyxia (P = 0.015).
