Understanding the Temporomandibular Joint for Comprehensive Imaging Diagnosis.

This introductory article in this issue on TMJ imaging aims to bridge the gap between the needs of the referring clinician (most often a dentist) and the interpreting radiologist reading the TMJ patient's imaging. There are many gaps in the knowledge of both medical professionals, by virtue of their angle and background of training on the nuances of this joint. The information is this article helps the radiologist understand the TMJ from a dental perspective and understand the downstream effects of TMD on the face, occlusion and breathing.
