Mapping the adoption trajectory, mobility independence, and social participation-wellbeing relationship of assistive technologies for persons with disabilities: a systematic literature review towards a conceptual framework.
Аннотация
PURPOSE: This study analyse the adoption trajectory of assistive technology (AT) and its impacts on mobility independence and social participation-well-being among persons with disabilities.
MATERIALS AND
METHODS
Following the PRISMA 2020 guideline, 80 empirical articles (2015-2025) from Scopus and Web of Science were synthesised using a three-dimensional scoring system: (1) the adoption trajectory, (2) mobility independence and (3) social participation-well-being.
RESULTS
AT adoption correlates strongly with functional mobility (ρ = 0.70), but only moderately with well-being (ρ = 0.58). This gap indicates that technical efficacy requires contextual factors like inclusive policies and accessible infrastructure.
CONCLUSION
This article presents the Inclusive Mobility Impact Framework, a model detailing how long-term use of assistive technology gradually boosts functional mobility and social participation. The framework highlights multi-level strategies to support sustainable adoption and inclusive well-being outcomes.
