Аннотация
Prostate cancer is an increasingly significant public health challenge in East Africa, characterized by a high proportion of cases diagnosed at advanced or metastatic stages and correspondingly elevated mortality rates compared with high-income regions. The management of prostate cancer in the region is hindered by a complex interplay of factors, including delayed diagnosis, limited access to diagnostic and therapeutic resources, shortages of trained healthcare professionals, economic barriers, and sociocultural influences that discourage timely help-seeking. Health system constraints, such as centralized services, inadequate infrastructure, and the absence of context-specific clinical guidelines, further impede effective care delivery. This manuscript synthesizes current evidence to examine these multifaceted challenges and highlights the need for integrated strategies, including early detection initiatives, expansion of treatment capacity, workforce development, culturally sensitive public education, and financial risk protection, to improve prostate cancer outcomes in East African populations.
