Аннотация

INTRODUCTION: Internet of Things (IoT) technology utilizes tools such as smartphones, smartwatches equipped with accelerometers, ingestible dosimeters, and blood pressure and blood glucose monitoring sensors which enables continuous monitoring of patient symptoms. Data collected by these devices are stored and analyzed in a timely manner, contributing to the provision of accurate and reliable information for managing patient health. This study aimed to investigate the role of IoT technology in health monitoring of patients with cancer.

METHODS: In this scoping review, articles were extracted from different databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, IEEE Xplore, ProQuest, and Google Scholar search engine from 1st January 2015 to 31st May 2026. Article screening was performed based on the PRISMA-ScR guideline. The required data were collected using a data extraction form. Then data were analyzed, categorized into tables and reported descriptively.

RESULTS: Initially, 384 articles were extracted and after screening and reading their full texts, 20 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included in this study. The use of IoT had clinical and non-clinical impacts, and its benefits included enabling remote monitoring and easy access to data transmitted through devices and applications equipped with this technology. This study showed that IoT significantly enhanced patients' quality of life through precise and continuous health monitoring.

CONCLUSION: The use of IoT technology enables accurate, continuous, and timely collection of health-related data for patients with cancer, and has been well-received by patients. This innovative approach can not only help to improve treatment quality and enhance patients' quality of life, but also has a positive impact on better health management by preventing symptom progression and reducing the likelihood of new complications. Continued investment in technological development and cross-disciplinary collaboration is essential to fully realize the transformative role of IoT in oncology.
