A. Saad Helal, E.-S. Abdel-Hady, E. Rafaie, M. El Shamy, R. Abd El Fattah, and A. El Magied Mashaly, "Preliminary Uterine Artery Ligation versus Pericervical Mechanical Tourniquet in Reducing Hemorrhage During Abdominal Myomectomy," International Journal of Gynecology & Obstetrics 108, no.3 (2010): 233-235, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijgo.2009.09.022. The above article, published online on 27 November 2009 in Wiley Online Library (onlinelibrary.wiley.com), has been retracted by agreement between the journal Editor-in-Chief, Michael Geary; and John Wiley & Sons Ltd. UK. Concerns were raised by a third party regarding the reported statistical methods and data irregularities. When asked to provide the raw data and copies of ethical approval, the authors stated that the raw data were no longer available. Additionally, the institutional approval was questioned. The authors reported that approval came from a local ethical research committee. Because the study was conducted before 2015, ethical approval should have been obtained from the Mansoura Medical Research Ethics Committee. The authors reported that their institutional department served as the IRB committee for Mansoura Medical School. When contacted for confirmation, the two individuals who served on the ethical approval committee did not respond to confirm that proper ethical approval had been obtained. Lacking the study data for further analysis, along with inconsistencies present in several places in the article, including errors in the categorial variables, and absent confirmation regarding the study's ethical approval, the editors consider the data and conclusions to be unreliable. Therefore, the article must be retracted.
