Аннотация

OBJECTIVE

The authors present an autologous skin shave micrografting (ASSM) technique for treating stage 3 to 4 pressure injuries (PI).

METHODS

Between 2024 and 2025, 7 patients with stage 3 and 4 PIs were treated using skin micrografting.

RESULTS

Seven patients with 10 PIs (3 stage 3 and 7 stage 4) underwent ASSM. The average PI size was 7.2 cm2. The average depth was 0.3 cm. The average donor site measured 1.5 cm2. All patients demonstrated complete healing within 4 months. Five of 7 patients remained recurrence-free during a 9-month follow-up period, and only 1 out of 10 PIs was open at 9 months.

CONCLUSIONS

ASSM is a promising modality for the treatment of select PIs and may be considered as part of the reconstructive ladder for advanced pressure injuries. JOURNAL/aswca/04.03/00129334-202607000-00004/figure1/v/2026-06-13T090907Z/r/image-jpeg.

PURPOSE: To increase knowledge of the application of the autologous skin shave micrografting (ASSM) technique for the management of advanced-stage pressure injuries (PI).

TARGET AUDIENCE: This continuing education activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses with an interest in skin and wound care.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES: After participating in this educational activity, the participant will:Evaluate patient-specific factors to select optimal treatment strategies for managing PI.Apply the techniques and procedural steps of ASSM for the treatment of advanced-stage PIs.Explain the underlying pathophysiologic mechanisms by which ASSM promotes healing in advanced-stage PIs.
