BACKGROUND: Neroli Essential Oil (Citrus aurantium) is scientifically validated among alternative and complementary treatment methods. Research increasingly focuses on its potential benefits in improving women's health, enhancing well-being, and treating related disorders. This systematic review aims to analytically synthesize the therapeutic impact of Neroli Essential Oil (C.aurantium) on physiological and psychological symptoms across various stages of women's health.
METHODS: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus for Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) published between 2014 and 2025. Twelve RCTs involving 1170 women (ages 15-80) were selected based on PICOS criteria. Methodological quality was rigorously assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist, with scores ranging from 8 to 10, indicating high-quality evidence. Due to clinical heterogeneity, a narrative synthesis was performed.
RESULTS: Evidence shows Neroli Essential Oil (C.aurantium) significantly reduces pain in primary dysmenorrhea and labor, alleviates symptoms of premenstruel sendrom, and lowers anxiety and depression during pregnancy. It also improves sleep quality, reduces nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and chemotherapy, and enhances sexual satisfaction in breastfeeding and postmenopausal women.
CONCLUSION: Neroli Essential Oil (C.aurantium) is an effective, low-cost, and safe non-pharmacological intervention for managing pain, anxiety, and physical discomfort in women's health.
