Аннотация

BACKGROUND

Endodontic infections in deciduous teeth disseminate rapidly into surrounding areas due to anatomical complexities enhancing the formation of endo-perio lesions. Inadequate treatment of such conditions usually leads to premature tooth loss, jeopardizing dental arch integrity.

OBJECTIVE

To investigate the efficacy of clindamycin (C), metronidazole (M), doxycycline (D), and their combination CMD against bacteria associated with endo-perio lesions in deciduous teeth for topical application.

MATERIALS AND

METHODS

The bacteria responsible for endo-perio lesions such as Eikenella corrodens (BAA 1152), Fusobacterium nucleatum (ATCC 25586), Porphyromonas gingivalis (ATCC 33277), Prevotella intermedia (ATCC 25611), Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 12598), Tannerella forsythia (ATCC 43037), Veillonella parvula (ATCC 10790). The MIC99 and MBC99 were calculated for clindamycin, metronidazole, doxycycline, and their combination CMD, as per Clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute (CLSI) guidelines. The data were presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD). The intergroup comparisons of the MIC99 and MBC99 were done using Kruskal-Wallis test, whereas intragroup pairwise comparisons were done using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test (p < 0.05).

RESULTS

The combination CMD was most effective, followed by clindamycin, doxycycline, and metronidazole, to eliminate test bacteria. The intergroup comparisons of all test groups and intragroup comparisons among the individual agents for MIC99 and MBC99 demonstrated statistically nonsignificant differences (p > 0.05). In contrast, intragroup comparisons of CMD against individual agents for MIC99 and MBC99 showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05).

CONCLUSION

The combination CMD can effectively eliminate bacteria associated with endo-perio lesions in deciduous teeth to decrease therapeutic failures, promote endodontic lesion healing, and increase the survival of the teeth in the dental arch.
