Аннотация
The instrumentation developed to measure the thickness of an oil layer on water in the presence of waves is described. It consists of a probe which follows the surface of water; a light-sensitive gauge attached to the probe measures the extent to which it is submerged in opaque oil, thus determining the oil thickness. In transparent petroleum products motion pictures may be used for this purpose. The results of performance tests of components and the preliminary tests on actual waves are presented.
