Аннотация

OBJECTIVE

To compare serum syndecan-1 (SDC1) and hyaluronan (HA) concentrations in dogs receiving sevoflurane or isoflurane during general anesthesia and to assess factors associated with changes in these biomarkers during anesthesia.

DESIGN

Prospective, randomized controlled trial.

SETTING

University teaching hospital.

ANIMALS: Twenty-eight client-owned dogs scheduled for magnetic resonance imaging and potential surgery for intervertebral disc disease were enrolled.

INTERVENTIONS: Dogs were randomly assigned to either the isoflurane or sevoflurane group, with 14 dogs in each group. Serum SDC1 and HA concentrations were measured before and after anesthesia using commercial ELISA kits validated for dogs. Primary outcomes were SDC1 and HA concentrations before and after anesthesia, as well as their changes during anesthesia, defined as postanesthetic minus preanesthetic biomarker concentration (ΔSDC1 and ΔHA). Secondary outcomes included duration of anesthesia, intraoperative medications, perioperative complications, and total intravenous crystalloid volume administered.

MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN

RESULTS

No significant differences in postanesthetic SDC1 were observed between the sevoflurane (14.3 ng/mL, 6.5-40.6) and isoflurane groups (20.0 ng/mL, 13.6-24.2; p = 0.129). Similarly, postanesthetic HA concentrations did not differ significantly between the sevoflurane (14.2 ng/mL, 7.3-36.8) and isoflurane groups (14.2 ng/mL, 0.32-44.1; p = 0.560). However, HA levels significantly decreased after anesthesia in both groups (p = 0.013 and p = 0.011).

CONCLUSIONS

No differences in endothelial glycocalyx effects were observed between groups that received sevoflurane or isoflurane anesthesia.
