OBJECTIVE: This study aims to evaluate the clinical outcomes of adding bevacizumab to chemotherapy in patients with recurrent, persistent, or metastatic cervical cancer treated at a single tertiary medical center in Taiwan.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study included patients with recurrent, persistent, or metastatic cervical cancer who received at least two cycles of bevacizumab-containing chemotherapy at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital between June 2020 and March 2023. Treatment duration, number of chemotherapy cycles, tumor response, and adverse events were analyzed.
RESULTS: A total of 93 patients were enrolled. The mean treatment duration was 9.64 ± 7.36 months, with an average of 10.44 ± 6.70 cycles. The clinical benefit rate was 64.5%, and the overall response rate reached 46.2%. The median progression-free survival was 11.4 months and the median overall survival was 18.5 months. The most frequently observed adverse effects included anemia (85.0%), neutropenia (76.3%), proteinuria (61.3%), thrombocytopenia (55.0%) and hypertension (52.5%). Fistula formation was documented in 10 patients (10.8%).
CONCLUSION: Adding bevacizumab to chemotherapy demonstrated favorable clinical activity in a real-world cohort of patients with recurrent, persistent, or metastatic cervical cancer. It provides efficacy and safety similar to the results of previous clinical trials.
