Echography is a medical imaging technique based on the transmission to and the reflection of ultrasound from biological tissues. Used in obstetrics it can detect minor as well as more severe fetal pathologies well before birth. The prenatal diagnosis of facial clefts and their precise anatomic evaluation give the surgeon vital information for a prenatal consultation that will greatly aid parents and medical personnel in treating and caring for the infant.
