Smart contact lenses unlocking non-invasive eye treatment.
Аннотация
The eye, serving as the primary gateway for visual information processing, is the indispensable channel through which humans perceive and interact with the external world. Structurally, it comprises an anterior segment, handling light entry and refraction, and a posterior segment, which absorbs light and transmits visual signals to the brain. Within advanced ocular healthcare, smart contact lenses (SCLs) emerged as a groundbreaking wearable technology with immense potential to revolutionize the management of diverse ocular conditions. Their inherent advantage of non-invasive and intimate corneal adherence circumvents numerous limitations of traditional therapeutic modalities. By integrating cutting-edge bio-functional components with sophisticated physical field-based therapeutic modules, therapeutic SCLs offer transformative treatment solutions to persistent challenges in conventional ocular pharmacotherapy. These lenses are poised to deliver non-invasive therapeutic interventions for a broad spectrum of ocular pathologies, spanning both anterior and posterior segments. Crucially, therapeutic SCLs effectively mitigate the risks of infection, inflammation, and other postoperative complications associated with invasive surgical procedures. Furthermore, by intelligently modulating the complex "eye-brain" pathway, SCLs introduce a paradigm-shifting strategy for managing neurovisual impairments, thereby unlocking promising avenues for restoring visual function and addressing previously intractable conditions.
