Open-Label, Phase 2a Pilot Study Evaluating the Efficacy and Tolerability of Topical Mesalamine Treatment in Adult Patients With Active Eosinophilic Esophagitis.
Аннотация
Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) is a chronic type-2 inflammatory disease of the esophagus.1 Once considered a rare disorder, the incidence and prevalence of EoE have been increasing rapidly since its first description in the early 1990s.2,3 It is currently estimated that 1 of 700 individuals in the United States suffers from EoE, making it the second leading chronic inflammatory disease of the esophagus and the most frequent cause of solid food dysphagia in young adults.4 Although topical corticosteroid formulations and the anti-interleukin (IL)-4/IL-13 antibody dupilumab have been approved in the United States and Europe, a relevant proportion of patients with EoE is still refractory or intolerant to the available treatment options.5-7 Thus, additional agents with a different mode of action and of a favorable safety profile may fill an unmet need for some patients.
