Functional decline is a modifiable and preventable risk factor. Nursing, at the center of patient care, is poised to coordinate the patient's mobility activities. Multiple steps to stave off functional decline to improve health outcomes for older adults are in the control of nurses and nursing practice and reflect the goals of the NICHE practice model.
