[Overview of current practices and management of genitourinary syndrome in breast cancer patients].
Аннотация
INTRODUCTION
Genito-urinary syndrome of menopause in breast cancer survivors women is a major challenge in terms of quality of life and therapeutic compliance. Although American recommendations are available, many oncologists remain averse to treat this syndrome or are insufficiently informed about available therapeutic possibilities.
METHODS
We conducted an observational study with 88 physicians in metropolitan France/Overseas Departments-Territories who treat patients who suffer from localized breast cancer via an online questionnaire.
RESULTS
In total, 14.8% of physicians performed primary prevention against genitourinary syndrome. At diagnosis, topical hyaluronic acid is the most prescribed first-line treatment, up to 70.5%. Local hormonal therapy was prescribed up to 50% for hormone-positive breast cancer, whereas 59.1% for hormone-negative breast cancer. No physician was fully satisfied with their management of this syndrome.
DISCUSSION: Genito-urinary syndrome in women with breast cancer remain undertreated, and French oncologists are partly satisfied with their care. Clear French recommendations on the management of genitourinary syndrome of breast cancer survivors are necessary in order to optimize proper treatment for each patient.
