ADULT ASTHMA MANAGEMENT. Adult asthma management is based on pharmacological treatments that most often include a controller treatment based on daily inhaled corticosteroids, the dosage which determines the therapeutic step, that can be associated with β2 mimetic bronchodilators, and a reliever treatment, to use during episodes of increased asthma symptoms. These treatments need to be combined with non-pharmacological measures: control of co-morbidities and factors that contribute to poor asthma control, as well as therapeutic education. Regular monitoring is adapted to asthma control, can be assessed using standardized questionnaires to provide objective measurements. The goal of asthma management is to achieve good control of the respiratory symptoms, reduce the risk of asthma exacerbation with a minimum effective dose of corticosteroids to limit their adverses effects.
