Аннотация

This contemporary research investigation uses polyethylenimine-assimilated carbon quantum dots (PC) to aid in the fluorescence sensing and adsorptive removal of copper (Cu) and bismuth (Bi) metal ions from the contaminated, impure water. The fluorescence response of Cu and Bi ions to orange and red emissive carbon dots (OPC and RPC, respectively) serves to identify the ions. Here, the dual emissions of PC are achieved while dispersing it in water (OPC) and methanol (RPC) based on the solvatochromism effect. This encourages PC to sense and remove multiple metal ions. Here, the sensing of copper and bismuth ions is supported by the "Turn-Off" sensing mechanism. Moreover, the adsorption process removes both metal ions. The selectivity experiment is well-proven with the interference of single and multiple metal ions. Furthermore, the prepared samples are optimized with pH, time and concentration of both materials and metal ions, to achieve high efficiency. By following, the reusability of both OPC and RPC is tested for about three cycles. Then, the mechanism of sensing and removal is elaborated with several analyses, such as zeta potential measurements, lifetime decay, determining quenching constants, and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy analysis. Lastly, the practical ability of the material is analysed with three actual environmental samples.
