The effect of perceptual training on visual quality in cataract patients with neural adaptation failure after multifocal intraocular lens implantation.
Аннотация
BACKGROUND
Multifocal intraocular lenses (MF-IOLs) have been developed to enhance far, intermediate, and near vision postoperatively of cataract surgery patients. This study investigates the improvement of visual function in cataract patients with poor or failed neural adaptation after MF-IOL implantation through perceptual training.
METHODS
This study enrolled 28 patients. Twenty patients underwent perceptual training, while eight served as a control group. The training included three approaches. Visual Function Index 14 (VF-14) was used to assess visual function before and after training. A correlation was observed between proficiency at each stage and VF-14 scores.
RESULTS
Patients who underwent perceptual training showed significant improvement in VF-14 scores compared to the control group. VF-14 scores in the training group were significantly higher after six weeks of training compared to one month post-surgery. No significant changes were observed in refractive data or iTrace visual quality examination results between groups.
CONCLUSION
Perceptual training can enhance the daily visual quality of patients experiencing neural adaptation failure after MF-IOL implantation. The proficiency measurements in this study may serve as indicators of visual quality following MF-IOL implantation.
