Аннотация
PURPOSE OF REVIEW: In recent years, there has been increased recognition that the experiences of youth who have endured bullying cannot be ignored or dismissed as harmless acts by 'kids being kids'. The present article reviews several key risks and consequences of bullying for adolescent victims.
RECENT FINDINGS: Bullying victimization has been linked with a number of adverse health and social outcomes, including mental health issues, weapon-carrying, substance abuse, academic problems, and other adverse consequences - some of which may persist into adulthood. Recent findings on cyberbullying, in particular, highlight the real-life consequences of virtual victimization.
SUMMARY: Pediatricians play a critical role in identifying and supporting victims of bullying and counseling parents about surveillance and intervention strategies.
