[Sinonasal malignant schwannoma: a case report].

UNLABELLED: The malignant schwannoma is rarely found in the nose or sinuses. Two forms are recognized: Isolated or primitive (de novo) and those occurring as part of neurofibromatosis (Von Recklinghausen).

OBJECTIVE

To study the clinico-anatomical characteristics, treatment and results together with a review of the literature.

MATERIAL AND METHOD: We report the case of a 58 year old patient with a right maxillo-nasal tumour presenting as nasal obstruction and epistaxis. An enlarged paralatero-nasal approach allowed the removal of the malignant schwannoma. Post operative radiotherapy was also undertaken.

RESULTS

The patient is fee of disease after ten months of follow up.

CONCLUSION

The naso-sinusal malignant schwannoma is a rare tumor which needs precise radiological assessment (TDM - MRI), and treated by surgery followed by postoperative radiotherapy.
