Dynamic apnea (DA) has been proposed as a conditioning strategy for high-intensity exercise, but its integration into routine BMX training has not been investigated. We examined the effects of an eight-week DA program integrated into coach-led BMX training. Nineteen competitive BMX riders entered the study; 12 completed the protocol (AG, n = 6; CG, n = 6). AG performed repeated apneas during selected cycling sections, while CG completed matched training without apnea. Sprint performance, heart-rate responses, maximal static apnea and post-exercise blood lactate were assessed before and after training. AG improved 300-m performance compared with CG (adjusted difference: -0.79 s; p = 0.017), whereas no significant between-group differences were observed for 500-m and start performance. Peak heart rate was lower in AG than CG after training during the 300-m and 500-m performances. Maximal static apnea increased, with a stronger and faster bradycardic response in AG than CG. Blood lactate did not differ significantly between groups, although four of six AG riders showed a marked reduction. Among protocol completers, DA was integrated into supervised routine BMX training and was associated with improved 300-m performance and cardiovascular adaptations. These preliminary findings require confirmation in larger cohorts.
